Provence and Camargue tour
(7 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis)
This private tour has been designed for travellers wanting an authentic and relaxing experience amongst spectacular landscapes and intimate settings. In close contact with nature, an approach to a traditional way of living in Camargue and the discovery of hidden French Provencal villages.
Discover cities and villages of Provence and Luberon. A region coloured and perfumed with a certain charm and the unrivalled relaxed pace of life.
From Gordes to Rousillon d' Apt, appreciate the history of these perched villages, their monuments and traditions. Be seduced by their heritage as well as the quality of the environment and town layout. Cobbled alleys which weave their way between the high houses, built out of the rock, perched on hillsides which whisper a thousand stories and legends... Lavender fields nestled in valleys...
The Camargue area is western Europe's largest river delta with exceptional biodiversity, and home to unique breeds of horses and bulls, and to more than 400 species of birds, including pink flamingos.
Camargue is like its own little country. Once you're a few minutes south of Arles, you begin to feel the atmosphere of the area, with its series of long, level roads criss-crossing the marshes and farmlands. No jungles or conical hats here, but rice paddies abound, along with grain fields, orchards, salt plains and even a few vineyards. A huge zoological and botanical nature reserve teaming with wildlife help to preserve its natural beauty.
All our tours are private and depart daily. They can be fully customised, lengthened or shortened according to the number of participants and to suit individual interests and schedules.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN AVIGNON AND PROVENCE
High speed 1st class train transfer from Paris to Avignon. Half day private tour of the charming city. Transfer to a typical “Provencal Mas” where you will stay in a deluxe room for three nights. Gourmet dinner at the hotel.
DAY 2: PROVENCAL FRENCH VILLAGES DISCOVERY
Full day private tour of some of the nicest villages of the Provencal region (Isle sur la Sorgue, Fontaine de Vaucluse, Gordes, les Borries, Abbaye de Sénanque, Roussillon d'Apt, Bonnieux) with a private English speaking guide. Gourmet dinner at the hotel.
DAY 3: THE PONT DU GARD
Half day private tour of the Pont du Gard with a private English speaking guide. Time for relaxing and to appreciate the local atmosphere in the afternoon. Gourmet dinner at the hotel.
DAY 4: PROVENCE AND CAMARGUE
Journey to the Camargue region, discovery of the authentic villages of Saint Remy de Provence, Fontvieille and Les Baux de Provence. Arrival in a magnificent “mas” for three nights. Exquisite dinner at the Lodge.
DAY 5: CAMARGUE AND PRIVATE BOAT RIDE
Full day private boat tour in the outstanding setting of the Camargue. Private picnic lunch on a secluded island. Dinner at the Lodge.
DAY 6: A TRUE LOCAL EXPERIENCE IN THE HEART OF THE CAMARGUE
Full day of real discovery of the traditional work in what we call a “Manade”, a quintessential local ranch. Mainly devoted to raising bulls and horses, the taurine traditions of the Camargue are a world away from the more familiar Spanish bull culture. A fun day in between the farmland, cowboys and wildlife, punctuated with a traditional lunch. Dinner at the lodge.
DAY 7: LAST DAY IN CAMARGUE
Free time to relax and take some last pictures. Private transfer to the train station and go back to Paris.
